Marne +49 176 48 15 17
Verena +49 176 48 22 66 33

Please contact us in urgent cases, preferably by SMS/WhatsApp, and briefly describe what it’s about. We will then call you back as soon as possible and try to remedy the situation immediately. Thank you!

Our housekeeper Loli can be reached via WhatsApp (+34 634 541 312) on site and also helps, but only speaks Spanish.

Kitchen

We always try to leave the kitchen well-equipped. This includes cooking utensils, oil and spices, coffee and tea, so that not everyone has to buy everything from scratch.
Please feel free to help yourself, and please re-stock what you run out of, so that the next guests can start their holiday well supplied again. Thank you!
On the gas cooker, press down the knobs (the ignition clicks) and turn 90° to the left until the flame burns. The two black grids are different; the smallest opening must be to the front right.

The cooker is supplied with a gas bottle. If the gas is empty, please contact Loli via WhatsApp (+34 634 541 312). She will connect the spare bottle.

Light switches (Philips Hue)

Because some of the light switches are installed in inappropriate places in the house, we have installed so-called smart lights in some rooms. We use the Philips Hue system for this. This allowed us to freely position the light switches and integrate some motion detectors. In addition, you can change the brightness and partly also the colour of the lights.
If available, please use the Philips light switches.

If a light does not respond to the Philips light switches or an existing motion detector, the “normal” light switch for the light is probably switched off. Please switch it on, wait a short time and now the light should react to the Philips light switches or the motion detector again. If the Philips light switches do not work even then, you can press all 4 buttons simultaneously for a few seconds. Wait for a few seconds and then the light switch should work normally again.

Motion detectors are located in the entrance area, on the terrace and in the small hallway in front of the bathroom. They only react after a certain level of darkness. They do not contain a camera and can only work if they are not obstructed.

Pool

The pool service (Jasper) comes once or twice a week; usually on Mondays and/or Thursdays. We want to offer you the best possible water quality and therefore try to keep the use of chlorine low. You can assist us in this by using the shower before each swim and applying sunscreen at least 30 minutes before your swim.

The pool cover can be operated as follows:

1) Take the cord to the wheel and start to roll up the cover. Make sure that the cover is straight and without kinks on the roll.
2) To prevent the cover from rubbing up sideways and getting tangled, make sure that the cover is rolled up straight. You can easily pull on the cover to straighten it.
3) When the cover is hanging over the water, wait 15 seconds to allow the water to drain.
4/5) Now tighten the rope and continue to turn the cover so that the string wraps the cover 3 to 4 times, preventing the cover from unrolling again in the wind.
6) To cover the pool, carefully and slowly pull the string from the middle of the other side. Be careful not to pull the cover under water or jam it.
Please handle the cover with care. It is unfortunately very expensive.

Please leave the cover on the pool as often as possible as this keeps the water warmer, less water evaporates and leaves that fall on the cover blow into the skimmer more easily.
It is important that children are supervised around the pool. In addition, the tiles can be very slippery when wet. Please be careful.

Bathrooms/Toilets

Please ventilate the bathrooms regularly.
Sewage is a difficult issue on the island. The pipes are unfortunately quite sensitive. To avoid blockages and burst pipes, nothing inorganic (!) must be flushed down the toilet; this unfortunately includes toilet paper. This is annoying, but a corresponding flood would unfortunately be even worse.
Please use the small rubbish bins next to the toilets. There should always be enough small plastic bags available.
We apologise for the inconvenience.

Keys/SmartLock

There is a keypad on the entrance to open the door keylessly. If the lock does not open, there is a key safe to the right of the entrance door. We have sent you both number combinations by e-mail before your arrival. The handle has no function on the outside.

The front door key also fits most of the other doors (laundry room, terrace), so you can also leave the house downstairs through the garden). Please close the large windows and lock the doors when you leave the house. Nazaret is a safe neighbourhood, but better safe than sorry.

Electricity/photovoltaic system – What to do in the event of a power failure

Most of the electricity on Lanzarote is generated with an old heavy oil power plant, although the Canary Islands offer excellent conditions for the use of renewable energies. In order to preserve the beautiful nature of Lanzarote, we have installed a photovoltaic system on the roof and heat the pool water via solar panels in the garden.

Of course, we want you to enjoy your holiday without any worries. Nevertheless, we would like to ask you to use larger electricity consumers (dishwasher, washing machine) during the hours from 10 am to about 6 pm in order to make the most of the sunshine hours. The hot water is also heated during this time.

The photovoltaic system has a maximum output of 5KW and thus generates more electricity on an annual average than Villa Ohana consumes. When the sun is shining, the surplus electricity is fed into the public grid; outside the strong hours of sunshine, electricity is taken from the grid, thus unfortunately using the smoky power station.

Power failure?
The fuse box is located in the upper compartment of the glass cupboard in the kitchen. There you can check whether all the fuses are switched on. All levers (except for the fuse at the bottom right) should be in the up position.

The electricity grid on Lanzarote is small, so there are occasional power fluctuations and short power cuts. If there are no lights on at your neighbours’ house, the whole of Nazaret is probably affected (some of the streetlights are powered by batteries).

If the fuse immediately blows again, please take it seriously. It is possible that water has reached the power lines somewhere. In this case, please be sure to let us know so that we can get to the bottom of the cause.
After heavy rainfall, it is possible that a distribution box in the outdoor area has been flooded. If you deactivate the fuses “Exterior Lights” and/or “Garage & Pool House”, the power in the house can probably be reactivated.

In contrast to electricity grids in Northern Europe, the maximum current draw per house in Spain is usually very limited. The connection to the public electricity grid is limited to approx. 5 KW. If more electricity is taken from the public grid at any one time, the electricity meter switches off and there is a power cut. Then the switch of the main fuse in the glass cabinet must be put back up.

The approximate power consumption of the existing appliances:
Air Conditioner approx. 1 kW per appliance on full power
Dishwasher (50°) approx. 1.5 kW (at the beginning and end of the wash cycle)
Washing machine (40°) approx. 1.7 kW at the beginning of the wash cycle
Water boiler approx. 1.4 kW each time hot water is used
Oven 2.4 kW
TV 0.2 kW
Pool pump 1 kW

Water/drinking water – What to do in case of water failure

The water on Lanzarote is extracted from seawater by reverse osmosis. This is a very energy-consuming process, so water is considered a precious commodity. We would therefore like to ask you to consume water consciously.

According to regular laboratory tests, the quality meets drinking water standards. Nevertheless, we have a second (smaller) tap in the kitchen, which is connected to a water filter.

In case the island’s water supply fails, we have an underground tank (Aljibe) with a water pump. If the water fails for several hours, please contact Loli (+34 634 541 312) or us and someone will come by promptly to switch the water supply. Due to the prolonged storage, this water should not be drunk.
The hot water comes from two 80 litre water boilers. The kitchen and the two bathrooms on the east side use one boiler. Please leave the temperature set at 65° to ensure that legionella cannot develop.

Laundry

The courtyard between the kitchen and the washing machine is the so-called “solana”. Most of the time, the laundry dries quickly here – but in the winter months and on one of the few (about 14!) rainy days a year, you will also find a mobile laundry rack by the washing machine. So you can also dry laundry under the pergola or in the pool house; please not in the house itself, as this can lead to moisture damage.

You can hang up swimming things directly at the pool house and beach things in front of the garage door.

Drawers and cupboards – Book exchange shelf

We have a locked room for our private things and two cupboards that are locked for Loli’s material. For all the other drawers and cupboards, feel free to look around, what is there you are welcome to use.

You are very welcome to read the books on the book exchange shelf. If you want to take one, please leave another in return.

Ventilation

Especially in winter, it is important to air the rooms regularly. If you are not using one or two of the bedrooms, it would be great if you could leave the cupboard doors open there. Thank you.

TV

In the past, all you had to do was turn on the TV to watch something….

Now you have several options:
Regional programmes: Behind the TV hangs a flat antenna that you can hang on the window to receive local Spanish channels. Then switch on the TV, click on “Sources” and select “Antenna”.

Streaming Apps: Several streaming apps are installed. Some, such as “Das Erste” or “ZDF”, work without logging in, while others allow you to log in with your private account (Netflix, etc.).

International programmes: It is usually possible to watch international programmes via the app “tivimate”. Occasionally there are interruptions here, so we cannot guarantee which programmes are available.

BBQ

You are welcome to use the barbecue on the terrace. Barbecue utensils are in the cupboard by the barbecue or in the washroom. Maybe previous guests have left some charcoal, otherwise you can get it in any supermarket.

Please make sure to clear the BBQ after use.

Printer

A b/w laser printer is available for airline tickets and other smaller printouts. 10 pages per week are free of charge. If you need more printouts, please contact us.
After switching on the printer, it automatically connects to the Wi-Fi. Your device must also be on the Wi-Fi network and should automatically find the printer (Brother HL-L2350DW).

Waste and recycling

On Lanzarote, rubbish is separated (residual waste, packaging, paper and glass). The nearest rubbish bins are at LagOmar, up the road. The residual waste is emptied every working day and the rubbish should not be left in the flat for too long either. Please do not leave food out in the open as this attracts ants.

Do not leave cushions on the terrace – Do not feed cats

Unfortunately, cushions must not be left outside overnight or during longer absences. The neighbourhood cats will mark them in a foul-smelling way. Please do not feed them either, as they will otherwise defend “their” territory very aggressively and cause problems for subsequent guests.

No smoking in the house

Please respect that smoking is absolutely prohibited in the house, as the smell would settle and disturb following guests.

Check-in/Check-out

On the day of arrival, you can enter the villa from 4 pm. If you notify us in advance, you can also leave the luggage beforehand.

Departure must be by 10 am so that Loli has enough time to prepare the house for the next guests. In individual cases it is possible to leave the house later. Please ask us, but keep in mind that this will not always be possible.

AC/Air Conditioning

The air conditioning units can heat and cool. Please use the units sparingly and close all doors and windows (including the small windows in the bedrooms and the window in the kitchen) in the relevant rooms when you turn on the air conditioning units. They are modern A+++ heat pumps, but the power consumption is still substantial, so that – at least without solar energy – the power consumption for additional cooking/washing will overwhelm the capacity of the house connection and the power will fail. See “What to do in the event of a power failure” above.

Camera

There is a camera in the living room to ensure the security of the house when it is not rented out. The camera is of course switched off when the property is rented out. You are also welcome to unplug the power cable. We would be very happy if you would reconnect the camera when you leave. Thank you very much.

WiFi/Internet

The villa is equipped with a fiber optic connection. The WiFi is: “Villa Ohana” with the password “EnjoyYourStay”.
The internet router is next to the sofa under the TV. Please make sure that no cables are pulled out there.

The Picon bed behind the grill

Please do not stand on the Picon bed behind the grill. There is a large hollow space underneath and the wooden ceiling can break under heavy loads. The same applies to the wooden hatches to the pool’s pump room and the other wooden hatches to the underground water tank ( Aljibe ).
Please also make children aware of this danger.

Departure checklist

Please dispose of the garbage from all bathrooms and the kitchen in the containers on the street.
Make sure that all external doors are locked and that one front door key and the key for the Summer House are inside the house and the other front door key is in the key safe next to the front door.
If you have run out of things in the kitchen like salt, pepper, oil, etc., the next guests will surely be happy if you replenish the supplies.
Please leave all wardrobes and the corresponding drawers slightly open so that they can ventilate.
Please start the dishwasher with your last dishes.
When you have used the safes, please remember to empty them. With the electric safe, it is important that the inner key is removed so that the batteries do not drain unnecessarily.
Put all the cushions from the sofa on the terrace back into the living room.
Please clean the grill and dispose of the ashes after using the grill.
Please close the large windows and leave the small windows tilted.
Make sure the pool cover is on the pool.
