Lanzarote – 24 C

Lanzarote & surroundings

Beaches, volcanoes and César Manrique – all less than an hour from the villa

Villa Ohana is located in Nazaret, a quiet village in the municipality of Teguise in the heart of Lanzarote. From here you can reach almost every part of the island in under an hour: long beaches, black volcanic landscapes and the works of César Manrique, the artist who shaped the island like no one else.

View of Famara beach and the Risco cliffs

Beaches

The miles-long beach of Famara below the Risco cliffs is a paradise for surfers and long walks. The nearest beaches with calm water for swimming are in Costa Teguise, about 15 minutes by car.

In the south of the island, the pale sandy coves of Papagayo are among the most beautiful beaches in the Canary Islands.

Jameos del Agua by César Manrique

César Manrique

The artist’s former home, the Fundación César Manrique in Tahiche, is just a few minutes from the villa. In the north, Manrique turned a lava cave into the Jameos del Agua, with a lagoon, a pool and a concert hall.

In Nazaret itself you can visit LagOmar, a house built into the rock in the 1970s that is now a museum and restaurant.

Cueva de los Verdes lava tube

Caves and volcanoes

Right next to the Jameos, the Cueva de los Verdes leads through one of the longest lava tubes in the world. In Timanfaya National Park you can see the Fire Mountains created by the great eruptions of 1730 to 1736.

In the La Geria wine region, vines grow in black volcanic hollows, sheltered by semicircular stone walls. Many bodegas offer wine tastings.

Monumento al Campesino in Mozaga

Culture and markets

The Monumento al Campesino in Mozaga honours the island’s farmers. In the farmstead next to it, workshops show traditional crafts and the restaurant serves Canarian food.

Every Sunday morning, the old island capital of Teguise hosts Lanzarote’s largest market, only about ten minutes’ drive from Nazaret.

Surf on the volcanic coast

Coast and sunsets

On the west coast, Atlantic waves crash against the rugged lava shore, for example at Los Hervideros and at El Golfo with its green lagoon.

Yet the most beautiful sunset is often the one you watch from the villa’s pool, looking out over the volcanoes.
